Hrm…
I was feeling weak and shaky at the bank about twenty minutes ago, Faye’s springs suddenly started creaking significantly where they were silent before, and Helen just bluescreened and rebooted herself… what’s going on today?

Pretty productive day today… I paid some bills and did some other paperwork, worked, played a nice chunk of Dark Messiah, got bored, installed Command and Conquer 3 and played a few missions of the GDI campaign, and went to Dollar Scoop Night at Baskin Robbins. Somewhere in the middle of all that, Alice and I more or less cleaned the whole house; we cleaned off the kitchen counters and oven/stove, swept and mopped the kitchen and the bathroom, reorganized and vacuumed our room, and spot-vacuumed the living room. Still have to clean the stove drip pans and fully vacuum the living room, but ah well… a good day’s work. I didn’t end up doing any real exercise today, but we did bike to Dollar Scoop Night… does that count? My foot pain is subsiding, but now I’m feeling more sore in my legs and back.
I wrote a fairly comprehensive to-do list for the week on Sunday night, and it’s about half-done now, with the remainder being split in approximate thirds between long-term items (Ninja parts), easy things (recharge camera batteries), and real tasks (Camaro smog check and registration).
So I was right, and my foot is still wonky today. No gym today, no running today… I’m actually pretty sad about it. I was hoping to build up some momentum this time. I guess I’ll just do some sit ups today, maybe some pushups to try out my wrist, and some squats if my foot and legs don’t complain.
Starting work right now, I’m watching the Speed Channel in the background. I just watched the end of the Spanish Grand Prix 125cc championship 2nd round… what an incredible finish. Gabor Talmacsi (I’m new to following the races, so I don’t really know who these people are yet) led Hector Faubel, both on Aprilias, for at least the last 4 laps of the race, pretty much no gap separating the two of them. Faubel refused to take the lead, even when Talmacsi let off fairly significantly, until the last few turns of the last lap. Faubel turned inside Talmacsi into one of the last turns and took the lead, but then Talmacsi drafted him and pulled alongside him in the home straight and took back the lead… by 14 THOUSANDTHS of a second! I love motorsports. ![]()
I’m slowly recovering from a series of mild mental shocks to my system… these shocks were vague and decentralized, so it’s hard to talk about them. Maybe there’ll be some tangible results, although I always hope for that and it never happens. I guess I have to put more effort into making it happen, instead of sitting around and hoping.
I just finished rereading Snow Crash (yes, you could consider that one of the shocks), and am now very much stoked about having re-realized how awesome the book is.
Listssss:
So I got “work” done yesterday, which I guess is a good thing. The gym disappeared into a maelstrom of laziness, and Twilight Princess turned into WoW and gaming night with the guys.
I think I need to incorporate Brandon’s maxim of “chaos is okay” into my life. I’m too in love with the idea of everything being completely neat and orderly. Like if I decide to start going to the gym on a given week, and I miss Monday, I then write the rest of the week off. Bad Eug! It makes starting anything and keeping it going that much harder… like I don’t have enough trouble as it is.
It is also bloody hot in this room.
To Do:
The last scab on my hand fell off last night, meaning that except for the fact that there are two large patches on my palm where the skin is two layers less thick than on the rest of my hand, I am pretty much healed. Well, that and the fact that my shoulders and wrist are still giving me shit. Okay, okay, guys, I promise I’ll never crash again!
I’ve been spending a fair chunk of my time working on a temp job that Brandon was good enough to hook me up with. It’s a pretty sweet deal… highish part-time hours (or more if I want it) at a higher pay rate than I got at my previous crap job, and the best part is that I can work from home, as well as any time during the day that I want to. Thanks, B!
In gaming news, Alice and I have returned to Azeroth after a month-long absence. I thought she’d be itching to play our existing low-20s characters, but instead we started a pair of Night Elves, a priest for her and a druid for me. To be fair, I was engaged in an epic battle in Supreme Commander when she wanted to start playing–hey, Ryan and I must hold off the forces of Supreme AI, for great justice!–so she started the priest on her own. Anyway, druids certainly aren’t shamans, but I’m enjoying my return to the hybrid lifestyle. I still miss my Tauren shaman on Silvermoon (now moved and still not played)! Spells, buffs, healing, whacking things with big sticks… all in the name of protecting my priest, who insists on being a tank.
On the chopping block today:
Life is pretty decent. My hand is healing nicely (it’s into the itching stage now… eek), to the point where I can use it normally for some things now. I still have to watch out for hitting it on things and the like, but oh well. At the moment, Pyrrhic is being prepared for a reformat/reinstall… Ryan came up on Saturday and acted as my hands for putting new components into the ol’ Frankenstein box. Now maybe I can play Supreme Commander… on medium graphics settings! :D A new router has also been installed, replacing the previous Router of Death. Alice won’t let me smash it yet, but hopefully the new router will prove more stable, and then I can take a hammer to the old one. I HATES IT.
Saturday was also part of my birthday celebration… the old man is now 24. Alice secretly invited my best friend and his girlfriend up here, bought me flowers and a bunch of presents, and made me dinner (mussels!). Then we went to see her play in Man of La Mancha, which was completely awesome.
I have a writing project to undertake today also, and either ribs/poker or gaming night tonight. Pictures should also be forthcoming at some point, reaching back from Mikey’s birthday party to Saturday’s festivities, with a healthy dose of cat antics all around.
